The Oriental Metropolitan Museum is located on the east side of the Presidential Office Building and at the intersection of Changjiang Road and Hanfu Street in Nanjing. There is a museum from its basement floor to its 3rd floor on the east and north sides. During the 3rd to 6th century, Nanjing was the first city in the world with a population of more than 1 million. Together with the ancient Roman city, they are called “the 2 centers of world classical civilization.”
The museum is the largest museum in Nanjing devoted to displaying the history, culture, and relics of the Six Dynasties.
The core theme of the museum is to showcase the splendor of Nanjing as an oriental metropolis. Four permanent exhibitions of the museum-“Capital of the Six Dynasties”, “Style of the Six Dynasties”, “Celebrities of the Six Dynasties”, and “Six Dynasties in Retrospect”-were among China’s 12th National Top 10 Exhibition Boutiques in 2015.
